Travelling musicians Iona Lane and Malin Lewis visit Eigg Primary

Violet and Arlo

They taught us a song about fruit. It went mango, mango, mango, mango and kiwi kiwi kiwi kiwi and pineapple pineapple pineapple mango…. They sang it first, then we sang it and then we did it all together. It was really fun words and we enjoyed it. It made us hungry for fruit.

“I especially love really juicy pineapple.” (Violet)

“I love every fruit.” (Arlo)

And then they taught us a really long song about Eigg an how trees grow. It was mostly about the tree farm in the forestry. We practised it a few times and then they recorded our voices. The end of the recording was funny because it recorded a child saying “I really want to listen to it.”. It made us all laugh. The song we recorded is coming out in 2025 (but they will probably take out the funny end bit).

Before that they asked us what our favourite tree is.

“My favourite is sycamore.” (Arlo)

“And mine are hazel and red wood.” (Violet)

After they left we listened to Iona’s favourite song and we listened to some her own songs she wrote.

The next day they were playing songs at the tea room. They played the tree song. They sadly didn’t do the mango song. It would have made everyone laugh. Edith was there and she liked it too.

“I like it when musicians come into school because my dad is one.” (Arlo)

“You get to learn music and it is great fun. I would like it if we could have musicians visiting every week.” (Violet)
