Swimming Week in Mallaig

A primary 2 learner and primary 6 learner share their experiences and thoughts on this years Small Isles Swimming Week.

Arriving

We got to the Fisherman’s Mission, dropped off our bags, had a wee look around, had some snacks and then when we went swimming. We did some jumping in, seahorse racing and other stuff.

We had to do more difficult stuff, like backstroke.

Trip to Fort William

We got up really early and migrated out in confuddled clusters, had breakfast and then we got the train to Fort William. We sang lots of Scottish songs on the train. We split into two groups and we went climbing. My thumb toe got really sore from wearing the shoes.

It was really scary, you’re on a rope, and when you want to stop, you can’t hold on to the rope. You have to not hold onto the rope and lean back; it’s so scary. You have to bunny jump down like Spider-Man. When I did it, I felt like James Bond.

I got stuck when I was climbing on the one with no rope. I thought I was going to fall like a flat pancake, but I managed to get halfway down and jump.

We also went to the book shop and the library, where we got to do the thing with the needle and paper [felting].

I made a picture of the Sgurr, one for my mum and one for the place.

It was a really nice library.

Then we had pizza on the train, which was great.

Final Day

On the final swimming day, we swam for hours and hours. We got to go on a big inflatable thing in the swimming pool. Then we went shopping and got ice cream.

Us older ones got to go to the high school and got a tour. It was very lovely.
