Pheasantry visit with Eigg Guiding Co

All the children from Eigg primary and nursery had a great bushcraft session with Kat and Jon of Eigg Guiding Co this week. About 20 children from Arisaig primary came to join them. This gave the Eigg children a great opportunity to develop friendships and links with children on the mainland.

That’s the fire. I chose some friends. I played with them and we went on hammocks.

If someone went in the middle of the fire they might get hurt, so you have to sit away from the fire. We don’t put marshmallows in the fire otherwise they burn. We want them to be white on one side and pink on the other side.

We were eating lunch, like a picknick. We saw tons of bluebells.

We were doing archery with Miss MacGilp. We had bows and arrows. You put the arrow on and then you pulled it back and then you let the arrow go and the it goes phhhhhhhhhssss

This is how you use the bow and arrow

The marshmallows were all melty and mine looked like king kong. I melted it too much and it made him a beard. We got 2 marshmallows each. 4 people were toasting at a time. We couldn’t have too many people near the fire otherwise we might burn ourselves.

We did blind obstacle course. We had to have a leader who felt obstacles and told everyone where to go, like duck, jump, side to side. Everybody else was holding on to the leader. I liked that they said what the obstacle was. It felt quite good being blindfolded, I could see a little bit through the goggles which was a trick.

We made dens. There are these big trees and you just had to put sticks round them and make floors, windows and all sorts of stuff. We made windows by putting little gaps around the sticks. We worked together. I really like team work.

We played grandma’s footsteps. Someone is a grandma and other people try to sneak up to the grandma and touch her. She has to stand still and she has to turn around and see if the children have moved and if they have moved, they have to go all the way back to the start.

Jon and Kat make tea in the woods and they have a toilet in the woods.

After we had marshmallows we went and sat up in the tree and played.

I really liked the marshmallows. They were so tasty and I put them in the fire and licked it off it, was so sticky! And I LOVED the hammock and going inside it and getting chopped up like a banana, it was so funny!

We saw a dragonfly.
