Guide dog visit

Colm (P4)

We had just had break and when we came in there was someone that had a dog with a harness on that was red and yellow. The dog had a harness because it means it was a guide dog. If there is a blind person the dog helps them know where stuff is. You can basically make it memorise roads and paths. And then the dog will guide the blind person along them.

The dog was a retriever. It was brown and it was called Mitch. The owner was called Zein.

We learned that when we see someone with a guide dog never distract it because the person can get hit by a car. The dog keeps the person safe.

We got to stroke it. It was very nice and fluffy. She took the harness off and it started to go round and play. We played with it. The dog also got a treat when it sat and lied down.

The only colour the owner could see was red, she couldn’t see anything else.
