Small Isles Week in Mallaig

We went over from Eigg to Mallaig on the Calmac and had dinner on the boat. When we arrived we walked up to the Mission Bunkhouse and met all the other children. It was nice to see everyone. We then went swimming and practised our front crawl. Then we went back to the bunkhouse and because it was quite late we went to bed. Myself and Hugh shared a room.

Day 2, The next morning we got up and went swimming again and this time we practised breast stroke. After that we went to the high school and had a french and science class. We met the teachers there. In science we built a tower of spaghetti with a marshmallow on top. After lunch we played rugby and we learnt the bear crawl and then the coach set up some cone circles and we had to kick a rugby ball into each one and see how many kicks it took us. In Shinty we practised dribbling skills and then we had a game of shinty. I enjoyed it but enjoyed the rugby better. We then went back to the bunkhouse and had some pasta with tomato sauce.

Day 3, we did a 3 hour drama lesson. We went into teams and we had to make different shapes with our body and we made tableaux. We then got some puppets and had to create a character for them. Then we played a match of rugby. We lost. We then met up with Pam and some primary children and walked to a Loch and we went pond dipping. There were tadpoles, one frog, lots of fish and some leeches. We went back to the swimming pool and had pizza or soup. It was good!

Day 4, We all went to Banavie on the train and went to the STEM centre and met Nick. We all went into one room and talked about salmon. Then we went into another room and acted out a salmons life cycle. After lunch we made fish pellets and had to figure out how to shape them so that they sink slowly in the water. Then we went back on the train and had dinner. We then waved off the Inverie children and we had another swim. This time we got to use flippers and we practised our back crawl and a little bit of butterfly. It was quite tricky.

Day 5 was home time and we said goodbye to the Rum children and got on our boat.

By the end of the week everyone was knackered but had a great time!
